Design&Law Webinar: Design Rights & Copyright

The second episode of our newly launched webinar concept, Design & Law, developed in collaboration with our internal legal committee, is about Design rights and copyright, where we have invited Johan Løje, IP Lawyer, to dive into the topic with you for an hour and a half. This episode is also a part of a theme week, where DesignEuropa Award (EUIPO) will take place. It celebrates excellence in design among holders of Registered Community Designs.

2025 has proven to be a very exciting year in relation to design law and yet more exciting  news awaits the design community. Johan Løje will take you through the latest developments in design law. First of all the groundbreaking case about designer’s right to reference work preformed in previous employments. We will also touch upon the important revision of the EU Design regulations and the signing of the Design Law Treaty. You will be guided through the latest development in copyright in fashion designs and furthermore we will talk about the latest decision from the European Court of Justice about requirements for copyright protection and rules of infringement. Finally we will hear about the bestseller clause, which may allow designers to request adjustments in royalty terms if the royalty level is considered unjustified.

This series is created for our members and anyone interested in the intersection between design and legal issues. Each session will explore a specific theme with expert guest speakers who will share their insights. Each webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the topic.
